What is Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and how can it help?

Osteopathy is a distinct practice and philosophy of medicine applied to standard medical care that focuses on the health and inherent ability to heal.  D.O.’s are trained to look at the body as a whole and not as a single organ or musculoskeletal system; everything is connected and has an influence on one another.  Therefore, gentle hands-on manual medicine uses the musculoskeletal system as a handle to access and affect the organ systems of the body.  OMM is a non-invasive approach to healing that helps to restore normal structure and function to areas restricted and/or affected by disease, injuries, trauma, and normal wear and tear.  OMM can positively affect the musculoskeletal, nervous, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and developmental systems of the body.
